ROIG Lawyers Miami Attorney Speaks at Black Professionals Career Day

Julie Harris Nelson, an attorney in the Miami office of ROIG Lawyers, was honored to speak at Madison Middle School’s Black Professionals Career Day.

“Having the opportunity to meet the students and share my triumphs and struggles has been such a rewarding experience. I hope my story motivates them to continue their education and encourages them to strive for excellence in their personal and professional lives,” said Julie. “The future depends on our children, and it is through the caring effort of people like you that a strong foundation is built. We appreciate you for your dedication to bring out the potential in each child, for guiding young people towards positive choices, for allowing them an opportunity to see life through your lens, and for helping them gain the knowledge they need to achieve their dreams, careers, goals and aspirations as they strive to become productive citizens in society,” said Chairperson, Dr. Tangelia G. Smith.

Julie is an experienced insurance defense trial attorney who has personally tried more than 50 criminal and civil jury and bench trials involving automobile liability personal injury protection (PIP) litigation and insurance law. Julie began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in Miami-Dade County under Katherine Fernandez Rundle. She later began practicing insurance defense with an emphasis on premises liability and bodily injury.

Julie is actively involved with multiple organizations within the Miami-Dade community. As an executive board member of the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Miami Chapter, Julie has dedicated the last 6 years of her life to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service and philanthropic giving, and civic duty. She has also devoted countless hours volunteering at school settings through the Justice Teaching program. She organized and moderated the first annual Domestic Violence Panel event where a portion of the proceeds were donated to multiple domestic violence shelters in Miami-Dade. Julie has made a significant impact on diversity within the legal community through her heavy involvement in Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers AssociationWilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association, The Florida Bar, and as the Diversity and Inclusion Committee Liaison for Florida Association for Women Lawyers.
