Edward J. Carbone of Roig Lawyers Elected to the Florida Defense Lawyers Association Board of Directors

September 4, 2014

Roig Lawyers, a minority-owned multi-practice litigation law firm dedicated to serving clients across seven offices throughout Florida, is proud to announce that Edward (Ed) J. Carbone, managing partner in the Tampa office, has been elected to a two-year term to the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (FDLA) Board of Directors.

Ed’s duties as a Director are to work with the FDLA Officers to set goals for the operation of the organization and to organize and run three annual meetings: the Annual Meeting, the Winter Meeting, and the Florida Liability Claims Conference.

The Florida Defense Lawyers Association represents the interests of lawyers in private practice whose practice primarily focuses on the defense of civil matters and extends membership to lawyers employed by public agencies and private corporations.

FDLA’s goal is to promote a level playing field in civil litigation and to foster its members’ growth as professionals through publications (a quarterly newsletter and a quarterly legal journal, Trial Advocate Quarterly), quality CLE programs, networking and support of fellow members, and collegial and social membership meetings. The group’s interests span such diverse issues as law practice economics, legislative developments, influencing substantive law, developing professional referrals, sharing expert information, and supporting members on statewide committees and elected offices.

FDLA organizes and puts on two annual educational conferences primarily for members, one major annual education conference for the claims industry, and numerous other educational programs throughout the year. It also has an Amicus Program, through which FDLA members volunteer to write amicus briefs in appellate cases of general interest to the defense bar. Ed was the recipient of the 2014 FDLA Amicus Award. “I was honored and very pleasantly surprised to receive the FDLA’s Amicus Award this year for my participation in that program,” said Ed.
