Lake Worth Man Arrested in 2008 Fake Accident Scheme

August 23, 2013

Insurance fraud, vehicle accident fraud, and grand theft are the charges facing a Lake Worth man who allegedly submitted $20,000 in false PIP claims to insurer AIG.

According to a Sun-Sentinel article titled, “Lake Worth man accused of defrauding insurance company out of almost $20K,” the man arrested was one of two men who were recruited to participate in a 2008 staged car accident. The other man remained at large as of the publication date.

Insurance fraud was suspected when investigators working as part of Operation Sledgehammer IV, an anti-fraud team run by the Department of Justice, discovered that the duo submitted insurance claims to the following three health care clinics:

  • Forest Hill Rehabilitation Center
  • New York Medical Rehab Center in Lake Clarke Shores, Fla.
  • VIVA X-Ray Medical

The clinics are among 21 healthcare providers targeted by the government for questionable PIP claims.
