ROIG Lawyers Joins Volunteers at Overtown Youth Center
Attorneys and other employees from ROIG Lawyers volunteered their time and talents Saturday, April 30th, as part of DAE’s (Duke Alums Engage) Day of Service at the Overtown Youth Center (OYC). The volunteer effort was spurred by Nelson C. Bellido, managing partner of ROIG’s Miami office and chairman of DAE South Florida.
The Day of Service benefited the Overtown Youth Center and the Sisters of Charity. ROIG employees joined volunteers in enrichment programs for children 8-15 in such areas as reading, drafting, arts and crafts, sports, yoga, and health and fitness. Volunteers also prepared sandwiches at the OYC for the Sisters of Charity to feed the homeless. Volunteers donated turkey, ham, cheese, bread, cookies, juice boxes, and bottled water.
“The kids at the Overtown Youth Center were very happy, which in the end is the most important thing,” Nelson said.
The OYC opened in 2003 to help build resilient kids through in-school, after-school, weekend and summer programs. The Sisters of Charity serve lunch year-round to 300 people a day.
